Turbulence Modeling Verification and Validation (Invited)

چکیده

Turbulence modeling for the Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations includes many assumptions and simplifying closures. Numerous models have been developed over the years, and all are deficient in one way or another. Many collective efforts have attempted to validate turbulence models for a wide range of problems, but conclusions have often been muddied due to the lack of grid convergence, lack of model verification in different codes, or for other reasons. In this paper, turbulence modeling verification and validation is discussed primarily within the context of several recent workshops. A web-based turbulence modeling resource is also described, whose goals include turbulence model documentation, verification, and validation. Using this resource, specific models can easily be put through a verification testing procedure, helping to eliminate coding errors.

Comparison of Turbulence Models for Simulating Flow in Waterjets

We have developed a fast numerical algorithm for simulating flows in complex moving domains. The new hybrid smoothed profile/spectral element method exhibits high-order accuracy as well as great computational efficiency as it removes the tyranny of mesh generation. Here we extend this work by incorporating a variational multiscale large eddy formulation for modeling the subgrid turbulent scales...

Validation and Verification of Hull Resistance Components Using a Commercial Cfd Code

A mathematically defined Wigley hull form is used to investigate the application of a commercial CFD code in prediction of the total resistance and its components from tangential and normal forces on the hull wetted surface. The computed resistance and wave profiles alongside the hull were compared with experimental observations for six different Froude numbers to validate the simulations. The ...

Towards composition of distributed evolving services: the Credo approach (invited paper)

ICT service providers face increasing demands on dynamic, flexible and scalable composition of their evolving software services. These demands complicate the validation and verification of such compositions as–a–whole. Within the European Credo research project, we develop techniques for the modeling, validation and verification of compositional distributed services. Our approach is based on tw...
